MercyOne Behavioral Health Center

Mason City, IA

MercyOne North Iowa Behavioral Services Center is located in Mason City, Iowa. It is an addition to the existing full-service hospital and offers a network of services for persons dealing with behavioral health issues.

The HVAC system makes use of the existing steam and chilled water plants in the building. Rather than being used directly in heating coils, the steam is used to heat a new hot water loop for the addition. A traditional Variable Air Volume (VAV) system was added with a custom Rooftop Unit (RTU) and Hot Water Reheat. The custom RTU includes a service vestibule where the steam-to-hot water heat exchanger and new hot water pumps were installed.

The electrical system is connected to the hospital’s utility and Energy Center for 100% emergency power. Energy-efficient LED lighting and lighting controls illuminate the open and welcoming spaces. Individual therapy rooms were fitted with RGBW LED fixtures to provide extra depth to therapy sessions.  Security and life safety were of utmost importance on this project to ensure the safety of patients and staff alike. Each patient room has 24/7 monitoring and door access was installed on all major passageways to control traffic in and out of the spaces.
